What it actually does
One field, filled in from the plate
It is the first thing asked on the last step of the booking. They type the registration, the vehicle appears, and they confirm it is theirs.
MOT expiry, before they book
You can see when the MOT actually runs out rather than when the customer thinks it does — which is how a car turns up a fortnight late.
Tyre sizes on the booking
The fitment comes back with the vehicle, so the stock check happens the day before rather than while somebody is stood at the counter.
It never blocks a booking
If the plate is not found, or the service is down, the customer is asked for the make and model by hand and carries on. A lookup that fails should never cost you the job.
The same plate twice costs nothing
Answers are held briefly, so a customer correcting a typo or a regular coming back does not spend another lookup.
You can see what you have used
Every lookup is logged with what came back, so the charge is never a mystery and you can see which bookings actually used it.
Who this is for
Garages, MOT centres, tyre fitters, body shops, mobile mechanics, valeters, diagnostics specialists — anybody whose job starts with knowing exactly which vehicle is turning up.
It is offered to vehicle trades only. A hairdresser has no use for it and will never be shown it.
Where the data comes from
Official vehicle records, looked up live when the customer types the plate. You get what is on record: make, model, colour, fuel type, engine size, year of manufacture, MOT expiry and tyre fitment where it is held.
It is a lookup, not a guess, and it is the same information you would get by checking the plate yourself — except the customer has done it for you at the moment they booked, and it is already attached to the job.
What happens when it fails
Plates get mistyped. Some vehicles are not on record. Services go down.
When any of that happens the customer is asked for the make and model in their own words and the booking goes through as normal. Nothing is lost and the booking is never refused because a lookup did not work — which is the only sensible way to build it when the alternative is losing a customer to a timeout.
What it costs you in practice
It is a flat monthly figure, not a charge per lookup, so a busy week does not produce a surprise. Repeat lookups of the same plate within a short window are served from what we already fetched.
Questions people ask
Yes, when you have this switched on it is the first question on the final step — but if the lookup cannot find the vehicle they are asked for the make and model instead and the booking still goes through.
The customer sees what came back and confirms it before booking. If it is not their vehicle they can enter the details by hand.
No. It is a flat monthly price however many you do. The same plate looked up twice in a few days only costs one lookup anyway.
Only for as long as the booking needs them. Plates are cleared from the lookup log after a set period while the count of what you used is kept.
