Garages and MOT centres

MOT and service bookings, taken online

Fill the ramp without the phone ringing off the hook — and bring last year's MOT customers back automatically.

A garage diary is constrained by two things: how many ramps you have and who is qualified to work on them. Generic booking software understands neither, which is why most garages end up back on a paper day book.

What it actually fixes

The phone goes all morning

MOT bookings are the most predictable job you do. Let people book them online and get your mornings back.

Only some staff can test

Assign MOTs to your qualified testers. Nobody else is offered for that job.

A three-hour service booked into a one-hour gap

Availability is worked out from the real duration, buffers included. If the hole is not there, it is not offered.

Last year's customers never come back

Full customer and booking history, so you know exactly who is due.

Testers and ramps

A Class 4 MOT needs a qualified tester and a bay. Only your testers should appear when someone books one, and only for the hours they are actually on site. Assign each service to the people who perform it and the booking page works that out on its own.

Fitting a full service around a run of MOTs is the same problem in reverse: a three-hour job needs a three-hour hole, and the diary should not offer one that does not exist.

Cleaning-down time

Nobody drives off the ramp the second the job finishes. Set a buffer after any service — fifteen minutes for an MOT, longer for a service — and the diary blocks it without showing the customer a strange gap.

The MOT that is due next March

This is the part most garages leave on the table. Every booking is attached to a customer record with its full history, so you know who was in last March and what for. When you want to fill a quiet fortnight, you already have the list.

Deposits on the bigger jobs

An MOT is fifty-odd quid and people turn up. A £400 cambelt is different. You can require a deposit on individual services — a flat amount or a percentage — and leave the quick jobs with nothing to pay online. The outstanding balance is recorded against the booking so the front desk knows exactly what to take.

Garages and MOT centres often ask

Availability comes from your testers' hours and the length of each job, so the ceiling is however many genuinely fit. If you want a harder limit, shorten the hours you make a tester bookable for and keep the rest of their day for walk-in work.

Each tester or technician is their own bookable resource, which for most garages maps one-to-one onto a bay. Dedicated resource booking — bays and ramps as separate items from the people working them — is on the roadmap, and the data is already structured for it.

Not at all. Online payment is entirely optional and off by default. Plenty of garages take nothing up front and settle at the counter.

Yes, and you will. Manual bookings go straight into the diary and block the slot exactly like an online one.
