Pet groomers
Booking for a grooming salon
Price by size and coat, build drying time into the appointment, and take a deposit so the slot is not wasted.
A full groom on a doodle is not the same job as a bath and tidy on a terrier, and the diary needs to know the difference before someone books three hours of your day into a forty-five minute slot.

What it actually fixes
Wrong slot for the wrong dog
Services priced and timed by size and coat, so a three-hour groom cannot be booked into an hour.
Drying time nobody accounts for
Buffers after each appointment cover the dry and the clean-down.
No-shows on long appointments
Take a deposit at the point of booking.
Regulars every eight weeks
Full history on the customer record shows who is due.
Priced by size and coat
Set up services by size band and coat type rather than trying to price every breed. Small, medium, large; short coat, double coat, hand strip. Five or six services covers almost everything and the customer picks the honest one.
Drying is part of it
A full groom is wash, dry, then finish, and the drying is not hands-off time you can fill. Set the duration to the true length of the appointment and add a buffer after it for the cage dry and the clean-down.
Deposits
No-shows in grooming are expensive because the slot is long. A £10 deposit at the point of booking filters out the people who were never going to come, and comes off the price on the day.
First-time dogs
A nervous first-timer needs longer. Put a first-groom or assessment service on the page with a longer duration so you are not trying to do it in a standard slot.
Pet groomers often ask
It happens. Change the service on the booking and the duration and price update with it — and if that pushes it past the next appointment you will see the clash immediately.
Put the requirement in your booking policy so it is shown and acknowledged before the booking is confirmed, and use the notes field for anything you need to record.
Not as a rule, no. What most groomers do is shape their bookable hours so the long appointments only fit where they want them.
