Let clients book a shoot and pay the deposit

The deposit holds the date. That is the whole point of taking bookings online.

A photographer sells days, and a day given away to somebody who changes their mind is not recoverable. Which is why the deposit has always mattered more than the booking — and why it should be taken at the moment somebody decides, not a week later after three messages.

What it actually fixes

Dates held on a promise

A deposit is taken when the booking is made, so a held Saturday is a paid Saturday.

Three messages to arrange one shoot

Clients see real availability and book it, with the details you need collected at the same time.

No editing time in the diary

Block out days for editing and the booking page will not offer them.

Turning up not knowing the brief

Ask what the shoot is for at booking; the answers sit on the appointment.

The deposit, at the moment they decide

Set it per shoot type, as an amount or a percentage, taken into your own Stripe account when the date is booked. A held date with money against it behaves very differently from a held date with a message against it.

Shoots are not all the same length

A headshot session is forty minutes. A newborn shoot runs to three hours because it has to. A wedding is a day. Set each one to its real length and the diary stops offering a Saturday you were always going to spend somewhere else.

Travel, and the shoots that are not at the studio

Preparation time before and packing-down after are held in the diary and hidden from the client, so an on-location shoot does not get a studio booking dropped in behind it.

Where, and what they want

Ask at booking, in your own words: the location, how many people, what the pictures are for, whether there are children. It arrives with the booking rather than in a thread you have to scroll back through on the morning of the shoot.

Your gallery is the sales pitch

Nobody books a photographer from a price list. The gallery on your page is where the work goes, and the page is the link you put in your Instagram bio and on your Google listing.

Editing time, blocked out

Block whole days for editing and nothing can be booked into them. A photographer whose diary only shows shooting days is a photographer who ends up editing at midnight.

What it costs

£17.99 a month. Fourteen days free, and no card to start.

Photographers often ask

Yes, per shoot type, as a fixed sum or a percentage. A consultation can take nothing while a wedding takes several hundred pounds.

Set the shoot types you offer on each day through your working hours, and block anything you want to keep free. A Saturday can be left open only to the services you actually want on it.

Yes. Add a short form to the booking and the answers arrive with the booking email and sit on the appointment in your diary.

No. It handles the booking, the deposit and the diary. Client galleries and delivery stay with whatever you use for those.
